After re-christening himself as “The Third Coming Of Funk,” XL Middleton is back with his latest offering, The Hedonistic Mixtape. As XL himself says about the project, “People ask me all the time what I mean by ‘Hedonistic’. Listen, it’s just a more complicated way of saying, this is some party music I’m giving you.” Full of funked-out basslines and rich chord arrangements, The Hedonistic Mixtape is a lot of what people have come to expect from XL, topped off with a whole lot of the unexpected. He goes the safe route on “Let It Get Into You,” twisting Tom Browne’s “Funkin’ For Jamaica” into another Cali anthem, but on “The Medicine” he takes it in another direction, sprinkling his signature sound with some reggae influence.

Originally released as a true mixtape, the project is now available with all songs untagged - for all intents and purposes, it's now an album.
