简介

Licity Collins "Love Me Like That" Recorded and mixed at Colourbox Recordings, Ventura, CA Drums—Jeff Evans Bass—Dan Bagdazian Vocals, Tambourine, Guitar- Licity Collins Inspired by the poem "My Sweet Amy" by Jamie Stevens _____________________________________________________________ Raw, real, and joyfully honest, Licity's songs draw on the storytelling of folk, the rhythms of rock, the playfulness of country, and the emotional underpinnings of soul. Her lyrics feel like an entry from a stolen diary. In the fall of 2012 Licity Collins was gifted a some money from a friend. She wanted to do something with it beyond immediate needs, something permanent, something that would change her life forever. So, after paying the bills, she bought a guitar. She started writing songs as she was learning to play her first chords. Her voice was freed, her stories found a home—and her life changed forever. “In the years just before and just after I bought my guitar, I was in a process of uncovering and integrating some details about myself, truths that were missing from my interior portrait. Once I was able to see myself as who I truly am I began to hear my voice, my own wonderfully imperfect, deeply real, honest voice. It was then that music decided I was ready to be one of its stewards—a role I am in awe of daily. I’ve always been a storyteller. The characters in my songs are every one of us. I peer into their lives—our lives—and draw out the pictures we share. The stories and lyrics come from my memories, tidbits of sentences once said to me, some illumination or disquiet that stayed with me for years. Maybe an overheard phrase, or an emotion that passes through like a breeze or a storm. There is such a private thing that happens between a song and it’s listener. I hope that when people hear my songs they recognize the stories as familiar, as a part of themselves—their own secrets, sorrows, fears, fantasies, trials, triumphs, maybe their own missing truths, but hopefully, and most of all—their joy. Nothing connects the human experience better than song. It is through song that we communicate the things that make us bleed and heal. It is through song that we know we are each other. During those years of discovery, through all the shifts, song was one of the greatest comforts to me. And so I remembered why I sing, and this has become a part of my mission as a songwriter—my songs help us to remember why it is we sing.” Licity arrives at songwriting after childhood instruments of cello, recorder, saxophone, school chorus, and a lifelong habit of collecting people and stories that have been patiently waiting to find their way into songs. She grew up on the East Coast, and has lived in cities, farms, houses, apartments, and rooms in New England, the Midwest, Pacific Northwest, and now makes her home in a cottage in a small town in sunny southern California.
