Starting his recording career in 1996 on C-Rocks Stir15, this album is a retrospective of Jackmates past and the things to come. Over the years he released on labels like PokerFlat, MorrisAudio and Resopal, did quatriple remixes for artists like International Pony, Egoexpress and Move D and is also well known under his moniker of SoulPhiction and as a member of ManmadeScience. not to mention we run Philpot Records together. The "Black Box" album contains some older, reworked material as well as live tracks and actual productions. Theres a 2003 update of the PokerFlat classic "The Jacker", the 2001 session "Mentally Disturbed" and "Dynasty", a track from 1998. "The Walls" and "Booth" are two livetracks, recorded last year, all other tracks are actual productions. Though this is a very tracky album, it shows the huge diversity in style of Michel Baumann. While every track got its own personality, the feel of Chicago-rooted house is everywhere! I dig this album so much, cause its raw, it got hooks and its f....... funky ...period!
