Boston-based bassist/composer Bruno Råberg is proud to announce the release of "For the Unknown", a recording featuring Råberg on bass/sound design, Phil Grenadier trumpet and Allan Chase saxes. There are trios, duos and solos making up this exciting blend of sounds. This is Råberg’s 8th release on his Orbis Music label (OM0816). Bruno has collaborated with Phil and Allan for over 10 years in a wide variety of settings. This project, which features all free improvisations, shows the unique, intimate and creative musical relationship they have developed. The music is personal, evocative and truly original. The result is compelling music that showcases Råberg and his musical companions’ inventiveness, compositional prowess and accomplished solo work. BRUNO RÅBERG is an internationally renowned bass player and composer. Since coming to the US from his native Sweden he has made seven recordings as a leader, about 30 as a sideman, and has performed with numerous world-class artists including George Garzone, Sam Rivers, Donny McCaslin, Chris Cheek, Ben Monder, Ted Poor, David Gilmore, Mick Goodrick, Ben Monder, Bruce Barth, Jim Black, Matt Wilson. Råberg has toured throughout Europe, USA, Japan, Africa, India and Central America. He has lead several groups of his own: the Lifelines Quartet with Chris Cheek, Ben Monder, and Ted Poor; Råberg is a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston and has traveled as a clinician/performer. PHIL GRENADIER hails from San Francisco from a musical family including bassist Larry Grenadier. He has released 2 CD's as a leader, "Sweet Transients" featuring Ethan Iverson and Bill Stewart, and "Playful Intentions" featuring Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jeff Ballard. Phil has appeared on 50 CD's, recording with such artists as Kenny Barron, Larry Goldings, Kevin Hays, Marc Copland, Bill Carrothers, Chris Potter, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, Drew Gress, Larry Grenadier. In 2007 to 2009 Phil toured Europe, South America and the US with guitarist John Scofield, alongside bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Bill Stewart . ALLAN CHASE appears on over 35 recordings with artists including Rashied Ali, Dominique Eade, John Zorn, and Gunther Schuller. He has two CDs of his own featuring Lewis Nash and Matt Wilson. Allan chairs the Ear Training department at Berklee College of Music. He is a former Dean of Faculty and chair of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Improvisation at New England Conservatory. He grew up in Phoenix and studied composition at Arizona State University, jazz at New England Conservatory, and ethnomusicology at Tufts University.
