Opening Theme to Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto #1 This is a unique piano arrangement of the opening theme to Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto #1. The melody of this theme is known and loved the world over, even to people who are not familiar with classical music. It is interesting to note that Tchaikovsky did not compose this melody himself. The opening theme was based on a melody that Tchaikovsky heard performed by blind beggar-musicians at a market in Kamenka (near Kiev) There have been many assorted cover versions of this melody throughout the years, including a big band jazz version by Freddie Martin in the 1940’s and a lush piano and strings version by Roger Williams in the 1950’s. Both renditions were recorded and published under the title “Tonight We Love.” My solo piano adaptation is not a bombastic arrangement with clangorous sounds and flashy ostentatious arpeggios. It is a sensitive, artistic interpretation with a wide dynamic range. I hope you like it.
