I love hymns, and I say this without apology! I remember growing up in our Baptist Church and hearing all those tunes, but I must confess I thought they were boring and drab at the time. They were “old school funeral marches” and definitely not cool. An old organ grinding away and a dodgy piano just do not do hymns the justice they deserve! These days… well maybe I’m just older, or perhaps wiser (that’s debatable), but I believe that outside of the Bible there are no greater or more beautifully written songs in history. In fact, I’m thinking of starting a Charles Wesley fan club! At a time when many are rediscovering the awesomeness of hymns, I wanted to redo some of my favorites in my own style, and in a way that perhaps a younger generation could relate to and enjoy as much as their grandparents. Besides, these hymns are the best of the best, the ones that have survived through the years. They deserve to not be forgotten, but to me they’re more than just Church history… I believe they are very near to the heart of God! Hope you learn to love them like I do, because we will be singing most of these in eternity! And eternity is a really long time to be singing something you don’t like, so appreciate them while you can! These form the basis for our "Hymns of Our Fathers" presentation, which has been not only celebrating these incredible songs and introducing them to a new audience, but also has been touching the hearts of listeners in churches from Australia, to Europe, The United States and Asia.
