BIOGRAPHY Marshall Bland, known by his stage name “Big Goon” is a well known local recording rap artist. Born in Monticello, Georgia to Temp and Shirley Bland, he and his family soon after relocated to Fort Myers, Florida. Known as “The City of Palms”, it is the home of Atlantic Records recording artist “Plies” and NFL Players such as Deon Sanders, Jevon Kearse and Philip Buchanon. His upbringing was challenging and full of adversity due to his parents having the responsibility of providing for 5 children, with “Big Goon” being the oldest. Trying to help his parents with household obligations, he quickly turned to the streets to make a living and partook in all that the “fast life” entails, which eventually led to his arrest. During his incarceration, he was faced with no choice but to make a decision on his life. He soon realized that he had a gift for music which he discovered while incarcerated and the rest is history. “Big Goon” is indeed a multi-talented lyricist, writer, producer, and community activist. In May of 2008, with the support of City Councilman Johnny Street, he organized and led a neighborhood rally which spoke out against the escalating violence that plagued the African American communities of Lee County. The event was covered by the local media and drew hundreds of supporters which included local pastors, businesses, and city officials. Often referring to the studio as his “first home” and the stage his second, his love for music is evident as he composes and arranges all of his music. With songs such as “Live My Life”, “Strong Woman” and “Da Streets Aint 4 Everybody”, his talent is astonishing with Tupac, Plies, Trick Daddy, Scar Face, and Lyfe Jennings being named as his musical influences. “ Big Goon” accredits his family and music with keeping him humble, grounded and motivated to keep striving towards accomplishing his lifelong dream of becoming an international artist. His motto has always been “God” is my provider, my family is my life and haters make me greater!” “There is always someone doing worse than I am” stated “Big Goon”, “So I’m grateful”.
