"kenor" is modern Hebrew for violin. In Biblical Hebrew, it means some kind of string instrument; King David played the kenor. Our music draws from several traditions: classical, jazz, and (of course) rock. In essence, it is improvised classical music. It could be described as warm, lyrical, avant garde. All of the instruments are "acoustic." No electronic enhancement, amplification, or manipulation was used in the playing or recording. The violin is a superb 18th-century Italian violin. The percussion features a clay hand-drum. The space in which we recorded is the Lancaster Trust Building, with supportive, reverberant, acoustics, which perfectly suited this ensemble. The music is entirely improvised. We developed this music by rehearsing on a monthly basis, recording our efforts, and listening intently to learn and develop our intuition to feed forward into the following sessions. A "love theme" comprising a leaping major seventh, then falling fourth and major third ties the entire album together. There is a great deal of variety in texture (note the hair-raising vocals), tonality, rhythm, meter, and tempo. The tonality ranges from simple diatonic and consonant to quite dissonant. Extended techniques(noise) are used---always for emotional expression. This is an album for serious listening.
