Take the swagger of a hip hop star, the sophisticated cool of an R&B crooner, the rebel attitude of a rock star, and a whole lot of southern soul of yester year, and you get King James. A soul slinging rock star with a unique sound all his own. Born deep in the south, of Alabama, King James, aka James Thomas was surrounded by music; whether it was gospel blasting throughout his home, or blues and soul playing in his father’s car. King James attended the University of Alabama, where he studied Political Science with an emphasis on International Business. While at UA he had his first chance at learning an instrument, studying piano as an elective at the university. It was there James also developed a love for other genres of music including classic rock, alternative and many others. After leaving college, James settled down in Atlanta where he honed his guitar playing, song writing, producing, and singing by developing friendship with local established artists, while touring open mics with friend and musical performer J.Darnell, of T'peka. While attending a album release party of Anthony David (King James’ Idol), he met his soon to be friend and co-producer Ryan Waters of Sade and Heavy Mojo fame. Years later, the two would begin working on James’ debut album I Got Soul, which is a combination of many genres of music all rolled into one to make an unmistakable sound. With his album set to be released early 2010, King James is set to usher in a new brand of music described by some as Lenny Kravitz meets Otis Redding, who meets Kanye West.
