The EP starts off with the soulful composition "I'm All Right" with Matt Kampe on lead vocals, piano, and alto and tenor saxophones, Jake Henry on electric guitar, Collin Dennen on bass, Max McEwen on drums, and Molly Sauer on trumpet. "I'm All Right" starts out mellow but breaks into a driving groove that will have everybody jumping. After that is the funk driven rocking tune "Toxic Attack" featuring the wailing guitar of Jakob Reinhardt, and the heavy grooving drums of Adam Holtzberg. Collin Dennen and Molly Sauer return on bass and trumpet with Matt Kampe on lead vocals, electric keyboard, and alto and tenor sax to make "Toxic Attack" a grooving funk-rock tune that will make you get up and dance. The EP changes gears at that point with the very experimental alternative song "Rorschach" with Matt Kampe on lead vocals, piano, alto and tenor sax, and clarinet. The tune also brings back the shredding guitar and backing vocal harmonies of Jake Henry and the rhythmically fascinating drums of Max McEwin, and Collin Dennen on bass. "Rorschach" is a rhythmically and harmonically interesting track that will keep the listener at the edge of their seat until the very end. After that comes "2/3-30" which is by far the most sentimental track on the EP. This song sees Matt Kampe switch from piano to acoustic rhythm guitar while still providing lead vocals, and alto and tenor sax. The tune also includes Jake Henry on lead guitar and backing vocals, Collin Dennen's melodic bass lines, and Max McEwin's consistently grooving drums. "2/3-30" is a catchy tune that can be a tear jerker at times. The EP then concludes with Matt Kampe going back to his jazz roots with the very soulful "Jammin' in the Back Bay" with Matt Kampe returning to the piano, as well as providing lead vocals, and alto and tenor sax. The track also features the contemporary jazz drumming of Aaron Lawson and the smooth up-right bass of Matt Byron, with Jake Henry on electric guitar, Molly Sauer on trumpet, and Max McEwen on auxiliary percussion. "Jammin' in the Back Bay" is the grooving, catchy conclusion to what is a very elaborate and eclectic debut by multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Matt Kampe. © Matt Kampe 2014
