Robert Buckley was born in Brighton, England and he now divides his time between Vancouver, Canada and Europe. He studied composition, conducting and arranging at the University of Washington and the University of British Columbia. Upon leaving university Robert started working professionally as a composer, arranger, performer, producer and conductor for records, theme music for television series and specials, commercials, audio-visuals, contemporary dance, musicals, symphonic works and films. As a member the rock bands Straight Lines (CBS Records) and Body Electric (A&M Records) he released five albums containing several top-ten singles and a gold record with the number one single "Letting Go". He composed the music for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, B.C., music for the Calgary Olympics and "This Is My Home" for the Canada Pavilion at Expo '86 - a song that has been performed at every Canada Day since and has become like a second Canadian national anthem. Robert has written string arrangements for Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan and Aerosmith, to name a few. He composed original scores for numerous award-winning television series produced by Disney, Alliance, ABC, FOX, CBS, PBS, CBC and the Cartoon Network. He has also scored several movies including Casper's Haunted Christmas, Scary Godmother and Mulligans. Robert’s wind band compositions have been performed worldwide and he was the winner of the Canadian Composer's Award, given by the Canadian Band Association for his composition “Pacifica”. He was recently invited to be composer-in-residence at the 37th annual Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic held ay Troy University, Alabama where he premiered his composition “Continuum”. In the last few years Robert’s ventures include a number of live stage shows, in Canada and Europe, created alongside his wife, choreographer and writer, Marlise McCormick. Most recently he was honored to be invited to compose original music for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Olympics - to an audience of over three billion people.
