简介
FLUX is described in the Oxford Dictionary as “a process of flowing…” and as “continuous change”. This aptly describes the essence of free-play improvisation that rests in the core of the Wild Marmalade ethos. Every concert is a unique journey, the band entering the performance arena empty handed, no set list, no pre-show agenda, just free minds in a sea of energy, ready to go. This album has managed to capture this live momentum in a series of ten pieces recorded in the studio and two layered dance tracks ~ Red Belly and Tyagarah Mosquito, recorded and produced by Paul George at Si’s residence in Tyagarah, Byron Bay, Australia. FLUX exists at the threshold where live music meets electronic. Deep synth stylee didgeridoo drones meet the drum kit and spanish guitar in a way that has never been heard before. This album has been recorded and mixed with the dance floor in mind by Carey O’Sullivan, who together with guitarist Paul George, form the well known Australian band Tijuana Cartel. FLUX features several classic Wild Marmalade four-to-the-floor grooves such as Absolutely Orsen and Fundamentally Floored, but also traverses new realms into Funk with F Funk and dubstep with Power of the Flower, finally touching some completely different moods with tracks such as Ragas to Riches, featuring a combination of raga style guitar, long didgeridoo drones and jazz drums. This is an alchemical meeting of three virtuoso musicians playing instruments that all have deep roots in traditional dance cultures of the world. FLUX is a maturation of the band into a new sound that has a broader global global audience yet keeping integrity with the established Wild Marmalade following. A step towards the mainstream, but definitely this river flows underground.
