OUR BAND BAGWIS was formed by members of the Committee on Pilipino Issues (CPI); a grassroots organization in Chicago fighting for the rights and welfare, political empowerment and pro-people community development of Filipinos in the United States. It also stands in solidarity with the struggle for national and social liberation in the Philippines. We are a pro-people collective of Filipino musicians, poets and performance artists who are inspired by the political and cultural truths that our people experience. We are the voices of the Filipino peasant, the migrant worker, and every common man. With the beats, rhythms and harmony of our music, we welcome all people to march with us, proclaiming these realities. We invite you to listen to our songs and be one with our experience. OUR MUSIC The diverse and unique sound of BAGWIS reflects that of the diverse experiences of Filipinos, whether abroad or in the homeland. These songs are a collection of stories that express our triumphs and victories over injustice, our persistence of equality, our struggles against oppression and isolation and our path towards freedom.
