The Bristol Herald Courier describes Susan Brown as “a blend of Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris with a bit of rock-and-roll thrown in for good measure.” And that description proves accurate as her performances span the musical spectrum from good old hard-driving bluegrass to jazz, or even a gospel tune or two. Her able group of “friends” provides strong 3-part harmony and thoughtful arrangements from various configurations of dobro, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and doghouse bass. Even the casual music follower will walk away humming something from this group’s interesting mix of familiar and original tunes. SBAF is based in Abingdon, Virginia. Her “friends” feature Claiborne Woodall on guitar, Joe Dinkins on dobro and banjo, Mike Brown on mandolin and fiddle, and Dave Reimer on bass.
