简介
After spending the last 10 years in the Ottawa music scene apart of punk bands, indie outfits, and well... guitar-based music, James Romanuk and Eimhin Rooney decidedly buried themselves in their computers and keyboards. Their emergent project called Yenta rejects guitars and drums and is built entirely on keyboard, effect pedals and drum machine fused with distorted spit out lyrics that are passionate and reactionary. Now releasing their first EP 1, Yenta produces harsh, visceral electronic music which is at times erratic and sparsely melodic but to the point; their songs exercising the frustration of creating through droning synths and danceable beats. 1 is the first in a set of releases expected from Yenta in 2016, a concise set of songs, and a 5 track taste of their darkwave arrangements. Looking to the individual tracks, there’s melodic synth meanderings offered up on “Life’s Dithering”; “4 of the Hottest” is at parts dark disco with background cries; and “Wars Waged” adds some fun with a break clap all the while the singer repeating “A picture of a picture of your face...” 1 builds each of the songs’ climb and ends them once you hit that point. Nothing too nice, too sad, too upbeat. Yenta makes music that doesn’t chase the power chord, the epic breakdown, it is cold and harsh, putting a beat to that low kind of anger, an expression made in isolation. https://yenta.bandcamp.com/releases
