简介
More than a musical experiment, my Road to Forgiveness solo bass EP is also a personal fund-raising effort, supporting The International Association for Suicide Prevention and my local Quebec City Suicide Prevention Center. The album features my unique and experimental 'thumbpicking' and Kahler bass tremolo techniques throughout the 4 introspective and emotionally charged compositions. The Music … I wrote these pieces as études to help develop an alternate right hand technique - thumbpicking on electric bass guitar - and to explore ways to use my Kahler bass tremolo. After many years as a freelance bassist, this fresh approach to the bass has helped me find a unique voice on the instrument and has sparked alot of creativity. The search was long for how to interpret these pieces - but when I realized what I wanted to say musically, it became clearer. The challenge for me was to play without a set tempo and to let time flow freely. Most of my career I've been playing in bands with drummers and steady rythym, and I've always been focusing on groove. In working on this material I've tried to approach the music more lyrically and have an elastic pulse based on open phrasing and expanding the harmonic role of the instrument. The Project Since having children, I've felt the urge to get socially involved and make a contribution to society, without knowing where or how. I decided to join my musical explorations to this desire and to humbly make an album to help finance a cause dear to me – suicide prevention. Having myslef had moments of great darkness, I hope to testify to the importance of never losing hope of better days even through life's most difficult times.
