简介
Nick Schillace (nickschillace.com) is a Detroit area artist, teacher, and musicologist exploring what it means to be an American musician. In 2002 he completed a graduate thesis on the late guitarist John Fahey, and utilizes Fahey's self-described style of syncopated "American Primitive" fingerstyle guitar as the foundation for his own technique. This style, based on early forms of blues, folk, and old time music provides the perfect foundation for larger and more expansive musical compositions incorporating a wide range of his own idiosyncratic influences. "[Box Canyon] is a collection of nine pensive and frequently beautifully played songs for acoustic guitar . . . initially quietly searching before segueing into something more fast-paced and aggressive -- a fitting summation of Schillace's skills and versatility." -Steve Byrne, Detroit Free Press "Nick Schillace's solo acoustic guitar music is propelled by a command of the traditional and fueled by an expression of a truly original voice." -Jon Moshier, music coordinator/on-air host WDET-FM "[Schillace} ably picks up Fahey's torch in 'Box Canyon'." -W.Kim Heron, Metro Times editor "This guy is channeling Fahey and then going beyond. His tone is wonderfully distinctive . . . really clean and evocative." -Kevin Muirderman, custom luthier/guitar builder "Nick is a fine guitarist in the [American Primitive] tradition but he's got plenty of chops all his own." -Frank Pahl, artist/composer/musician . . . www.frankpahl.com "[Nick's] music is amazing. Beautiful playing." -Dominic Campanella, musician/ The Quarter After "Some of the best guitar I've heard on this site [myspace.com]." -Mark Yodice, National Guitar Workshop instructor "[Nick captures] the haunting feel and texture of early Takoma records quite well." -Jason Dennie, guitarist/composer . . . www.jasondennie.com " . . . inspired melodic evolutions. recommended." -Henk te Veldhuis, Bridge Guitar Reviews . . . www.xs4all.nl/~guitars
