The Music of Mathie fuses rock and songwriter sensibility. Strong roots in pop-folk-rock echo familiar chimes from past and present artists the likes of Jack Johnson, David Gray, John Mayer, Paul Simon, The Beatles, DiFranco, and Dave Matthews. While he may be a musician with similar roots he is no imitator. Mathie adds a distinctive edge of stretching and strengthening. It is music born of inspiration. "Supernumerary" was recorded in bedrooms, bathrooms, and basements from Madison to Nashville. Self-Produced and Recorded, it is a Hi-Fi - Lo-Fi release. A little grit with a little glitter. Mathie says of making the disc, "Being the Musician, Poet, Producer, and Engineer is a beautifully crazy labor of love. It is guaranteed to bring about multiple personalities..which I think is a necessity for song writing." "Supernumerary" is Mathie's first full-length endeavor. These songs were written while at home and while traveling abroad from sunny California to the pubs and hills of Ireland. -- Much of the album's themes surround the complications of relationships between others, self and society. "Supernumerary" explores the process of stripping through layers of social graces and past relationship conditioning in the attempt of finding true relations of friendship, love, and hope. At this time Mathie resides in Chicago where he can be found playing Solo, as a Duet with Pianist Megan Wright (his long time therapist), or with a full band. During the winter he burrows into an underground bunker where he writes and records insulated by 10 tons of Velveeta Cheese. During Chicago Summers he can be found at the Lake Michigan Beach under a shady umbrella slathered in 45 spf.
