简介
It was in Paris in the early 20th century that Gertrude Stein was inspired by Cubism, an avant-garde art movement whereby “objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form... the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context.” (Wikipedia) To quote Stein herself: “And so in Tender Buttons and then on I struggled with the ridding of myself of nouns... if anything that is everything was to go on meaning something.” Today's DJ, in a similar process, deconstructs existing recordings into loops, and then, through remixing, creates a “greater context” for the material. In later years, Cubism famously embraced elements of popular and indigenous art; I believe Stein shares my passion for such intellectual and visceral integration. In this music, you'll never be too far from the comfort of a familiar genre, and in Stein's words (brought to life by the mellifluous voice of Cori Samuel), you'll hear described, often with a sense of humor, a world of everyday miracles; from lakes to lilacs, from the moon to the mountains, from dancing to dinner... a world suffused with what she calls: “The Excitingness of Pure Being.” "All this makes a magnificent asparagus."
