简介
New Day Why We’re Here New Day is committed to performing music that uplifts, energizes, and heals the human family, celebrating both our diversity and our common humanity. Although we choose only music with a positive message, our style is eclectic, ranging from vocal jazz to world beat, gospel, country, and rock. Who We Are New Day was formed in 2003 to help lift consciousness through music at Unity of Fairfax in Oakton, VA. Eight members of New Day are vocalists, and instruments include rhythm and lead guitars, keyboards, bass, percussion, as well as occasional banjo and fiddle solos! With the exception of music director Carole Tomhave, all members of New Day are volunteers. We have a wide range of musical experience, from jazz quartets to musical theater and everything in between. New Day is: Carole Tomhave, Director & keyboards, vocals Lisa Colburn, Vocals Brendan Corbett, Lead guitar, vocals Steve Cumbie, Vocals, rhythm guitar, banjo Steve Graham, Bass, vocals Donna Salter, Vocals Roger Tomhave, Vocals, rhythm guitar Ron Wagner, Sound technician, bass Jeff Wolf, Percussion, vocals What We Play Most of our music is by unsigned New Thought singer-songwriters, such as Jennifer Ferren, Karen Drucker, Karen Taylor-Good, Tom Kimmel, and Devotion. We also have our very own New Thought singer-songwriter in the group, Roger Tomhave, whose music has delighted the audience at our home church. In addition, we do some beloved covers, including Bridge Over Troubled Water, Operator, I Believe I Can Fly, Somebody’s Out There Watching, and Feels Like Home. Praise for New Day With their vibrant spirit, juicy harmonies & inspiring selection of songs, New Day opens hearts, gets hands clapping, feet tapping, and brings a powerful sense of healing & empowerment to listeners at every performance! Professionalism, passion, and a positive message . . . make a difference in your community or organization by sharing the uplifting music of New Day. --Faith Rivera, Emmy-winning singer/songwriter I was proud and honored to have New Day open for our PosiPalooza concert event. They had the audience inspired and dancing in the aisles. In the relatively new and rapidly growing genre of positive spiritual music for all faiths, New Day is a driving force and a breath of fresh air. Great arrangements on well known and traditional songs, as well as fresh new original songs, make New Day a one-of-a-kind experience for an event of any size or religious demographic. You can always count on a high-spirited and professional presentation from this group! --Richard Mekdeci, Co-founder, New Thought Songwriters Tribute New Day is an exciting musical group with smooth, captivating vocals and superbly creative instrumental virtuosity. Aside from their varied talents, they are a dream to work with. Their music speaks straight to the heart. --Debi Smith, soloist/member of The Four Bitchin' Babes and The Smith Sisters, and winner of seven Wammies New Day is just like their name . . . a fresh and bracing take on The Good News. With vibrant vocals and brilliant playing, New Day rises up like the morning sun, promising a time of great expectations fulfilled. --Michael Jaworek, The Birchmere New Day is about rich, full harmonies punctuated with an occasional delightful surprise, outstanding musical teamwork, and inspirational, spiritual, New Thought messages. Listening to them, whether in person or on their CD, brings joy to my heart and a smile to my face. --Kathy Gee, Co-founder, New Thought Songwriters Tribute CD Review SOUND CONNECTIONS: Unity’s New Thought Music Resource, Issue #15 June 06 http://www.unity.org/music/soundconnections6-06.pdf AWAKENING – by New Day In the relatively new and rapidly growing genre of New Thought music and artists, New Day is a breath of fresh air as a nine piece vocal band ensemble in a single-artist-driven landscape. New Day is the house ensemble at Unity Church of Fairfax, Virginia and they have compiled a set of songs from a variety of sources, including our own Jennifer Ferren, Karen Drucker and Devotion, to some Contemporary Christian classics and great originals for your choir or ensemble. Some high points for me: New Day takes a traditional song like “Blind Bartimus”, (the blind man Jesus healed in Galilee, recounted in the book of James.) and turns it into a hand-clapping a cappella romp. “Dance With Me” is a moving and inspirational waltz that builds to a goose-bump climax and takes you in for a gentle landing at the end. Well known songs like Libby Roderick’s “How Could Anyone” and Karen Drucker’s “Blessing To The World” get fresh new SATB arrangements. I particularly like the cover of Tom Kimmel’s soulful, “One Heart” which is nominated this year in the New Thought Songwriters Tribute. The last two songs on the CD are titled “Bonus Christmas Tracks” to give you two more New Thought songs to add to your choral repertoire. Director Carole Tomhave is passionate about the growth of New Thought music and is a wealth of information for your choral and ensemble needs. She can direct you to the music and arrangements for these songs.
