Charles Pettee and FolkPsalm Ears to Hear, LLC is pleased to announce the third release from Charles Pettee & FolkPsalm: “The Way of Manna – Agrarian Songs from the Bible for the Care of Creation”. Continuing the distinctive, regional flavor of Americana and Bluegrass that distinguishes the first two celebrated releases, (Steady Love, 2002, and True Wealth, 2005), The Way Of Manna also features a 20 page booklet of essays by Ellen F. Davis, Professor of Bible and Practical Theology at Duke Divinity School. This combination of high energy performances by some of North Carolina’s premier acoustic musicians, and essays by Davis, (author of eight acclaimed books, including Scripture, Culture, and Agriculture, Cambridge University Press), makes for an inspirational and practical resource for either individual or group study in such Biblical themes as stewardship of the land, faithful eating, repentance, and celebration of God’s providence to all of creation. About the Musicians Charles Pettee (mandolin player and songwriter for Chapel Hill, NC’s Flying Fish recording artist The Shady Grove Band), along with fiddler/singer Elizabeth Bahnson, Robbie Link (esteemed freelance upright bass player), Brian Bolton (guitar and vocals), Mark Simonsen (from The Old Ceremony on drums), and the amazing Taz Shadburn (vocals), present an exciting mix of new acoustic, instrumentals, and bluegrass music based on Charles Pettee’s musical settings for Old Testament Psalms. Their first two CDs, “Steady Love,” and “True Wealth” precede the new “Way of Manna” CD/booklet and have been lauded by both music critics and devotees of the Psalms for the band’s refreshing approach and engaging melodies. “The music brings these old words new power, and pierces to our hearts as well.” (Town Crier, Fairview, NC).
