简介
A music collection of sonic instrumental landscapes of Modern Noir are interpreted on American composer and pianist Curtis Macdonald’s CMMP instrumental album download and streaming release “Los Angeles”. A dime-store detective novel saturated with the sounds of Jazz with an influence of EDM and Ambient Chill. “Hazy sunsets casting shadows on the streets and cold foggy midnights along the downtown corridors, an apprehensive yet inquisitive feeling of cool in the City of Angels.” This is Curtis Macdonald's “Los Angeles”. A flowing narrative of contemporary jazz where each track has an “underscore” quality which can ignite the listener's visual imagery. The haunting trumpet and sax fragments with Macdonald's signature melodic electric piano/piano interludes create an expansive ambient mood that is at times moderate and then upbeat and energetic. “All the compositions portray an attitude of contemplation and investigation, an essence of intrigue and individualism” says Macdonald of the nine track concept album. “I imagine a modern day environment with a faint cast of color interweaving with the black and white hues of a 1940’s film noir through the city streets of Los Angeles”. “I wanted to surround these environments with the sound that is heard at this moment in time interweaved with my jazz roots.” Jazz is one of the staples of Macdonald's musical background and “Los Angeles” is of a different nature then his Cool Jazz inspired ode to New York album “Manhattan”. “Riding the redline into town and walking the streets at various times in the day and night inspired the compositions” says Macdonald, “I reflect on the architecture and the people, from Pershing Square to the Hollywood Hills and west on Sunset Boulevard to the Pacific Ocean” “I experienced a more intimate perception with “Manhattan”, but with my home city of Los Angeles, I have a deep appreciation for the look and feel of the topography and I wanted to create a soundtrack that would reflect a feeling of Mid-Century Los Angeles mixed with today. Somewhat of a dime-store detective novel saturated with Chill/EDM.” You can hear the Modern Noir on such tracks as “Dawn on Broadway” ,“Angel's Flight”, and the misty investigation of “Sixth Street Bridge”. The pursuit for clues on “West on Wilshire”, “Palm Trees and Pavement” and “The Redline”. The gumshoe stroll on “Walking Hollywood”, the mysterious “Sunset at Midnight” and the impact of the closing track “Los Angeles” Macdonald’s compositions and various releases have ranged from jazz to world beat, ambient new age to EDM. This time around he is offering up a jazz meets chill with a dash of EDM. “I'm just in awe what we can do sonically with todays technology”. Macdonald says, “The sound characteristics that you can layer with genres of yesteryear can create a whole new attitude of music” “So, taking my love for jazz and electronica, and channeling my inner Raymond Chandler, I came up with this collection” Curtis Macdonald, a Southern California native residing in Westlake Village has been creating music and entertaining fans of the Jazz/New Age/Instrumental Pop genre for over 25 years.
