简介

This album began as a series of basement demos during the autumn of 2014. Inspired by Beck’s "One Foot in the Grave", I originally planned to record a lo-fi anti-folk EP. I wanted a surreal and odd sound, so I contacted Cortez—the talented writer and performer that he is— in hopes that he would provide synth to starkly contrast my guitar. The project took off immediately. We traded demos and found the lens through which we would write. I had songs about lonely cowboys and he had songs about lonely martians. We thought it would be cool to channel one constant emotion through two distinct world views. The ideas were coming so naturally, we decided to release a full album. There are two vague arcs in "Lonesome Dangers". One involves a scientist struggling with escapism after the departure of his lover. The other involves an alien who seeks human romance. This sounds a little contrived, but trust me, there’s plenty of ambiguity to casually enjoy the songs and to make conclusions of your own. We recorded and mixed throughout 2015 when we weren't working or being fat. Cortez and I recorded most of our parts separately from our home studios (or rooms.) Dag was a major help in shaping some of the songs. He also pushed for more drums to give the album some giddyup. If you’re still reading this, I’m giving you spirit daps right now. Enjoy the tunes, Johnny Here's Obscure Sound's review of "Oh Yeardley" from our last album: 7/29/14 "Oh Yeardly" is a concisely fun effort that blends the angular '90s alt-rock of groups like Pavement with a distinctively fun power-pop structure -- with a hook-y verse/chorus progression that's broken up in the middle by a raucously fun distorted guitar interlude. While the hypnotic repetition of the verses may prepare some for a big-time chorus that never comes, there's little doubting the jangly alt-rock appeal of the track throughout. Hartford-based Johnny Pants are certainly a group to look out for, as recent acts able to craft similarly exciting rockers in a two-minute span are few and far between. "Oh Yeardley" provides a wonderful balance of alt-rock nostalgia with a cutting-edge power-pop ideology.
