简介
As a co-writer of the theme for the “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather,” Neal Fox made a nice living. But when Rather left CBS, the theme went with him, and so did a nice chunk of change. But being the creative person that he is, Fox figured he could poke fun at the situation (his YouTube video shows him living in a cardboard box) and make some money, too. So he created “Thank You, Dan Rather,” a one-man show that opened in Fort Lauderdale last year. “Thank You, Dan Rather” features Fox’s original songs, anecdotes about his career in the music business (from “jingles” to a Top Ten Dance Club hit), and some surprise elements that prove he never takes himself—or life—too seriously. As for the music, one critic described it as “irony-laden compositions of social outrage tempered by toe-tapping commercial melodies.” The CD is a collection of new material, and songs specially picked from Fox’s earlier releases. Whether it makes you laugh, touches your hearts, or makes you think—you’ll have a good time. [A former partner in Patterson Walz & Fox Music Productions, Fox composed theme music for “Eye to Eye with Connie Chung,” “Bryant Gumbel’s Public Eye,” and “CBS Saturday Morning.” He also wrote music for two “Killer Tomatoes” movies and five self-released CDs.] Here are some reviews for “Thank You, Dan Rather”: “Fox is indeed a talented guy with an eclectic songwriting range. No doubt he is a lot of fun at parties.” —Hap Erstein, Theatre Critic, Palm Beach Post “A stupendous songwriter”—New Times " A musical reincarnation of filmmaker Michael Moore …an intelligent, musical endowment in tell-all mode." —Ron Levitt, Theatre Critic, Entertainment News & Views/Huffington Post “Part Randy Newman, part an eccentric tentacle of off-Broadway” —Jamie Laughlin, New Times Broward “A mixture of satire and social commentary...his musicianship is solid” —Christine Dolen, Miami-Herald
