简介
Out of the twilight of music’s pre-digital era come two definitive collections of remastered record releases by one of the best loved power rock bands of the day: DC Star. From the sweet pop harmonies of the first single “Blue Sparks” to the bone crushing thunder of “Fortuneteller” their sound was truly unique. Their high energy performances captivated audiences and inspired a new generation of rockers throughout the northeast. DC Star consisted of vocalist Kenneth (Kenny) Taylor, Jeff Avery on guitars, keyboards and vocals, David Simmons on guitars and vocals, Henry Farmer on bass guitar and Glenn Jones on drums. Their first singles were penned by writer Jefferson Antel but thereafter the majority of their music was co-written by David Simmons and lyricist Ray McCrory. Between 1977 and 1986 DC Star released 2 singles on Secant Records, an EP picture disk featuring "Is It You?" and full length album on Escape records and one national record release on Atlantic's ATCO subsidiary Mirage. As a result of being one of five finalists in Miller High Life’s national “Rock to Riches” contest in 1983, they signed a promotional deal and recorded commercials including “Welcome to Miller Time” and Miller’s banner 1984 ad “Made The American Way”. They also contributed songs to Baltimore, Washington & New York’s most popular radio station compilation records. “The Best of DC Star Records 1977-1983” was re-mastered in 2015 by David Simmons and John Grant using Isotope’s revolutionary Ozone ™ software. This created the best sounding tracks since they were recorded many years ago! Footnote: DC Star released “Livin’ in a Rock and Roll Whirl” featuring “I Wanna’ Rock Tonite!” on Escape records in 1984. No sooner had the record hit the radio airwaves, DC Star got signed to Atlantic Records. Atlantic re-titled “Livin’ in a Rock and Roll Whirl” to “Rockin’ in the Classroom” after recording and including DC Star's cover of "Smokin' in the Boy's Room", and it was repackaged and released on ATCO subsidiary Mirage in 1985. “Rockin’ in the Classroom” by D C Star was digitally re-released on iTunes January 1st 2015 by Unidisc Music.
