The great unknown marks the first solo release for singer songwriter Jeff Bernstein. After working with producer, engineer mike caffrey at monster island recording songs for an album, the subject of recording as a band vs recording as a singer songwriter came up. Bernstein expressed a desire to go beyond what he'd done musically. Noting the process for jeff tweedy and wilco, caffrey challenged Bernstein to imagine all possibilities. Bernstein found a new way to work by going back to musical ideas that had been conceived over the years and weaving a sort of sonic tapestry to tie in themes both lyrically and musically. The result is a stunning passionate and cinematic album that paints pictures both musically and lyrically. A real work of art for arts sake
