"Lonely Old Man" is a retro-esque synthpop song by the musicians collective THE PLANETOIDS, and it's a song about hope. In a rapidly changing world, many old men are struggling to handle the dwindling of their privileges. Some end up voting for bigot presidents, some try to find peace in spoiling their electric SUV - and some actually manage to find a little bit of previously neglected truth somewhere deep inside their heart. THE PLANETOIDS saved the first instrumental demo of "Lonely Old Man" under the working title "music that an old man listened to when driving home at night v1". This idea was later connected to the tragic story of an old family friend of one of the band members. This man grew up in a very rich household where he could have become everything he wanted - but only after the passing of his parents, somewhere close to his 60th birthday, he realized that he was attracted to men. This sad but beautiful story was the inspiration for "Lonely Old Man": At the evening of life, he keeps dancing through the night. Everybody, no matter what gender or status, is suffering under patriarchy. And only now, the world is moving towards gender roles that might one day allow little boys to show love to other little boys, without being neglected and punished by the world they are living in.
