We started putring this CD together when we were doing some concerts to raise funds and awareness about the clearcutting of the old growth Redwood trees in northern California. One song, the Food Chain Song, is from our environmental musical show "Turn the World Upside-Down" which we performed in the New York City public schools when we lived in NYC. Mary and Julia honors two great Redwoods activists, Julia Butterly Hill, who lived in a Redwood tree for two years to prevent its being cut down, and Redwood Mary, who traveled the U.S. telling people about the Redwoods and setting up phone calls between Julia (on her cell phone and people across the country.
