The music contained on this album is refreshing. Even when the content of a song leaves a bitter aftertaste, the sweetness of the music neutralizes, and a listener is left refreshed. Think about the way the sweetness and bitter bite of mouthwash conspire to leave a clean-feeling mouth. Hopefully this album does the world more good than mouthwash though... Here are the songs off Comfort Quest in synopsis: "Modern Man" is a story of alienation and loneliness in the heart of the city. "Money or Love" is about the difficulty in really knowing why one feels the way one feels. "Emily" is about unrequited desperation. "The Guy from Stories Read to Kids at Night" is a play on the old idea that "You love who you will, you don't will who you love." "I Must Be About My Business" is about the dignity in being indispensable. "Where is My Wallet?" is rap song about a pimp losing his wallet. "Lonely as Balls" is a country song that doesn't stray far from its title. "Food Stamp Party" is a song about a mysterious Jesus-like figure who turns a crowded grocery store into a disco dance party. "Harder Than a Diamond" is an ode to the working man who works so hard he forgets how to do anything else and also loses his taste for doing anything else. "I Gotta Keep with It" is a ballad about utter commitment. I think this is my best recording work to date, but who am I to judge? (Plus I've felt that way about everything I've ever done...) If you're just discovering my music, I recommend checking out the Hudsons albums (also on CDBaby) which contain some of my older music as well as the excellent songs of my old singing-partner Hudson Mueller.
