November 12, '09 update . . . Intermission. Notice. 77 minute baggage drop. Tranquil. Passionate. Quenching. Scott's current dance band trio you tube site is : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPg8AjuMWK4 www.myspace.com/scotthorwath While being conversive by nature rather than choice, these tunes are frequently displayed as symphonic poetry. Questions are sometimes satisfied out of sequence. Bold answers are often given. You'll hear ironic signature passages as tunes develop. Each song has it's own honest touch. 1. Limelight 4:10 ~ G#mi.7 broken - enchanting orchestration soon mounts. 2. Turquoise 7:13 ~ two phrygian modes connect two separate romances. 3. Danzante 3:28 ~ Bb ~ dance ~ gyrate ~ tie those measures. 4. Berceuse 6:26 ~ Ab ~ Brahms-like ~ enchantment untarnished. 5. Spring Impromptu 5:46 ~ stacked 5ths, a vocal birdie, a lush bridge. 6. Traveller's Tale 5:17 ~ chords pass by in a rectangular rainbow. 7. Laughing Eyes 6:36 ~ opens with Ab/C. I also sing this piece. 8. Remember When 6:37 ~ the refrain's domain forever remains. 9. Building Blocks 7:00 ~ several techniques rolled into one number. 10. Shallow Water 6:08 ~ fermatas included. . . pause. . . digest. 11. Aujourd'hui 6:38 ~ 'today' is here ~ ragtime ~ diminish those 7ths. 12. Gabrielle' 4:00 ~ chosen melodious fragments can also be found 2 octaves down. 13. Riverboat 4:26 ~ ornate rolling waltz with anticipations. 14. Stepping Stones 3:54 ~ honoring the late great Robert Schumann. Stalwart. Other projects by this artist seem to be doing o.k. in other musical markets; while delving markedly into jazz fusion, counterpoint, funk, polyrhythms and vigorous etudes. Written & spoken concerning the C.D. 'Remember When': 'Limelight': "Scott resembles pianist Leif Ove Andsnes' style all over again . . . and is most certainly Edvard Grieg-like." 'Limelight': "Somewhat somber at first, this song rises with warm incomparably unique' passages. Beneath fluorescent light, such clarity points to a chilling realism. Blossoming life is present in every phrase. Transfixing. Horwath's Limelight passages mirror the 30's and 40's American Pianist/Composer Oscar Levant all over again, except with more awareness ! " "I sought out some kind of extra boost to get over my personal hardship. Excerpts from 'Remember When' were well suited." - annonymous. 'Berceuse': "Certainly not removed from context." "Galloping syncopation. Here, pianist Jim Brickman also comes to my mind." - John Theringer. 'Berceuse': "Vivid layers of texture. I think a new kind of George Gershwin has been uncovered." 'Building Blocks': "Pure juice extracted. Dwells upon a unique form of insight which often culminates within shattered mood swing individuals. I was really surprised by that fresh celtic sounding movement following a jazzier intro. These chops remind me of other technical performance wizards such as the contemporary Jeffrey Siegel, notorious U.S. 1940's organist Ethel Smith on 'Tiko Tiko', and at moments, even the former Franz Liszt." 'Laughing Eyes': "Spunky technical ideas. World Caliber in the field of eclectic." 'Stepping Stones': "Rejuvenating. Grandiose. Humble to robust. It jumped my dead battery right pronto." "Uplifting. Hypnotic rubato phrasing. We should savor every fleeting moment before it dissolves. I found a real catalyst here." "Old World, in this wacky urban wilderness we are thrust into today" - "Refreshing." 'Gabrielle', "There's a dazzling display of counterpoint with the contrabass going on here. And even more when you see the guy play live." "Remember When stimulates our senses in a way which exposes our lost priorities into the limelight once again." "Calms and captivates. Down-to-earth with that mocha." "A well-targeted remedy. Headphones prior to sleep. Allows for p.m. downshifting." On 'Remember When', two of the very finest recording microphones were implemented. (Neumann & Telefunken) A well-maintained six foot Yamaha Grand Piano was used ~ Recording / Mixing / Mastering engineer - Jim Reynolds - Custom Studio, Drake Road, Hopkins, Minnesota. The selections are not remakes. They are fresh unedited carefully arranged versions generated directly from the inner works of the artist himself. Scott later added string orchestration to six of the selections. Shortly thereafter, this Remember When C.D. was used as a demonstration disc for Rimage Corp. It was produced & duplicated on a ModuLine MCL 4000 by Rimage Corporation of Bloomington, MN. Rimage Corporation provided sales & support of Multi Media Masters & Machinery C.D. replication & CD-R media manufacturing equipment in North and South America. Influences are not exactly the same as actual performance stylings. Although this composer's musical style in particular is influenced somewhat by others, he remains oddly musically maverick, resembling few other living performing composers . . . yet his own compositions are documented to resemble Debussy, Tori Amos, Van Cliburn, Lori Line, Liberace, George Winston, Kieth Emerson, Chick Corea, Yanni, Frederic Chopin, Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert, Bela Bartok, Saint-Saens . . . Scott was a founding member of North Hill Music Partnership established in 1992 (6 members - distributers of original music cassettes/C.D's). Movie, medieval, blues, soul, popular, renaissance, neoclassical, jazz, fusion, folk, country, and other diversities are his styles. Flowing themes, victorian/romantic style originals are of great interest to him also. When on acoustic guitar, mandolin, & cherango his technique is unique' finger-picking, multi-tuning, subdued & folk oriented. Scott strongly feels that his voice is more 'on' when he can be in contact with the vibrations of a good in-tune acoustic guitar, in a quiet setting. Subtle overtones in his voice can be tapered to supplement his acoustic guitar as well as his piano playing. During younger years and high school, parents encouraged piano lessons as well as sports. His family was and still is a great artistic inspiration to him. Scott's parents are both retired teachers. His sons Chris and Matt presently reside in Germany and New York. Scott also thanks Bob Berg and the Dessalet Clan for their continuous help & support with 'Remember When' and other musical projects . . . Bob Jr., Carrie, Sharon, Bob, & Nancy. Following several recitals, competitions and graduation, came a new career in what was once a wide open area of music. Playing by ear, sight reading, arranging, & modifying songs were certainly second nature by now. The piano soon came to be a natural pastime. Scott Played 'Romantic Era Classics' while at Waldorf College, Mankato State, & NMU . . . recitals, jazz ensemble, voice, chord charting, theory seminars, classical guitar, and percussion classes. A four year enlistment in the Air Force did not darken his creativity. He continued lucrative work performing, teaching guitar & piano with others, doing sheet music arrangements of pop songs. . . A firm knowledge of structure simplified his chording and charting. Fluent keyboard solos in any given key. Transposing and chording in any key . . . quickly finding vocal harmony parts. . . 415 original compositions. Professionally performed over 2500 well known tunes. Reads from Hal Leonard, Shaumm, Eckstein. Scott is a fish-out-of-water when not performing. Occasionally he will perform foreign sounding custom fit modes and scales intended to fit the moods and ambience of each selection. They are intriguing. He presently performs some of the Victorian / Classical Era Piano Masterpieces . . .(Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) playing live medleys and seques of tunes which compliment each other. Recently published two solo piano C.D. projects with BMI Performing Rights Organization ... Remember When & Once Again 34 original selections have been published thus far. These works were published through Air Deluxe Music BMI (Bob Berg), 23 Music Square East, Suite 301, Nashville,Tenn., 37203-3628. (615)726-1204. Scott's Later C.D. release entitled World Majestic is an international collaboration with percussionist/film script writer Benjamin Tychman, including classical excerpts, original compositions & vocals. 'World Majestic' has received considerable air-play on AIR FRANCE Radio. A video of 'World Majestic' was filmed by Videoscope Marketing. Monique's Company Jazz Dancers also assisted - (Eagan, MN), as well as Dakota Co. Cable T.V. In April and May of 2006, one of his instrumental piano selections from 'Remember When', 'Building Blocks', reached # 6 in popularity, for three weeks, and remained on the classical chart ratings of www.americanidolunderground.com for 18 consecutive weeks.
