简介

Just M's new cd is titled 'Kitty Love'. It's a conceptual work, telling the story of a love that couldn't be denied... a love that goes beyond mere puppy love into the hitherto-unexplored realms of Kitty Love. The collection begins with the rollicking, gospel/bluegrass/rock "Heaven", which sets the scene: A young woman beset by questions concerning her place in the world, who rejects the paradigms of her youth and sets off to explore her emotional and sexual inner self. The next cut is "Intensity". Set to a dark, mysterious rock groove, it describes the almost-supernatural attraction she feels when she meets a person who inflames her passions. However, she knows that this person isn't necessarily someone who is "good" for her; there's danger in pursuing these feelings, and the recognition of that fact is detailed in the heavy, sultry blues groove of the next song, "Road Goes Down". Next comes the only cover tune on the collection, "So This Is Love" a reworking of Disney's Cinderella Waltz. It extols the euphoria of love's first blush, but it's followed by the CD's centerpiece "Smoke in My Hands", a darker work that warns of the dangers our protagonist faces when her emotional reach exceeds her grasp, in a passionate jazzy exploration of melody. As the relationship crumbles, we hear the longing for a lost loved one in the gentle and moving "Ghost"; over a slow, undulating piano and disconnected noises, Emily Baker's ethereal voice evokes a desperate, unrequited loneliness. Resolution begins in the next song, "Don't Say Hello" as our heroine takes the first steps towards healing her emotional wounds. This song, written solely by Emily, actually predates the rest of the material by a good four years and is a favorite with audiences at the band's live shows. The following song is the country-flavored "357,000" which somehow manages to make light humor of a devastated love while simultaneously acknowledging the deep tragedy inherent therein. Finally, the title track "Kitty Love" reveals that when all is said and done, the only love you can rely upon is the love you get from your kitties. Emily Baker graduated from Denison University's Music Department in 2004. Chip Gilchrist has been performing and recording music all over the Cincinnati area for thirty years. Together they composed and recorded this cd in the hopes that their music may touch some people.
