Making the most of her later-in-life time in the spotlight, 2010 X Factor fifth-place finalist Mary Byrne issued her second studio album, …With Love, two weeks before her series runner-up, Rebecca Ferguson, had even released her first. Despite the presence of acclaimed producer Phil Coulter, its 12 tracks stick to an unimaginative repertoire of ’60s/’70s easy listening classics similar to that of her unexpected Top Ten debut, Mine & Yours. It’s all very tasteful, of course, with the sweeping orchestral production lifting most of the record above the usual karaoke fare, and Byrne at least shows she’s learned to rein in her foghorn tendencies.
