简介
I'm a jazz/wedding/big-band singer; a musical mixture of Joe Williams, Nat Cole and Lou Rawles with a sprinkle of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and just a little touch of Barry White. Combining a variety of songs, including "American Songbook" standards and lesser-known jazz gems is what I love best. For me, one of the more enjoyable features of performing is the ability to spotlight a song writer, popular songs, or an individual singer and seeing a joyful response from my audience. In my CD, JIM MALLOY / JAZZ VOCALIST, I'm able bring that concept to a reality. In making this CD, I can hardly express the personal joy that I've found by following my musical muse. The fact that I've been given quite a bit of appreciation and approval as well as assistance, encouragement and guidance from musical and personal friends has made this task even easier. As we're only successful through the help of friends, producers Anne Phillips and Bob Kindred have been instrumental in making my CD project come to life. I've been a vocalist for many years with differing and wide-ranging musical experiences, from street-corner Doo-Wop to small ensemble jazz groups, jazz choral groups and from wedding bands to "society" orchestras. I grew up in what was known as "Sugar Hill" in Harlem, New York City at a time when if you walked from block to crowded block you would hear music coming from each storefront record store you passed. You might go by one store and hear Doo-Wop or Latin Mambo blaring from the speakers facing the sidewalk, or perhaps you'd boogie to some hard Bop at another street corner. Walking further you might hear Nat Cole's mellow crooning of some American standard. My life, my ears were filled with music and I try to bring that consciousness to my listeners each time I perform. As a young man in the Air Force I sang with a number of vocal groups. After leaving the military I tried singing and song writing but drifted instead into Graphic Arts to earn a living. "Making a living" has had me alternating between Graphic Design and Newsreel Photography. A good part of my life has been spent working in television. I am a five-time Emmy Award winning Newsreel cinematographer/videographer, having photographed for NET, CBS and NBC in New York. I've also been a Video operator for NBC-Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, as well as a Today Show Graphic Artist. A Filmmaker, having made three short films, I hold an M.A. in Media Arts from The New School University in New York. Life and luck have given me the opportunity to do the one thing I love most, sing.
