The first thing that hits you is the harmonica. A mournful blues-drenched dirge conjures up images of train tracks and old bars. The beat starts and an amplified acoustic guitar launches into a folky rhythm. Next comes the voice. It's gritty, sensual and a bit defiant. It belongs to 26-year old singer/songwriter Paige. The Oakland resident was born in Slidell Louisiana. Whiskey Was the Medicine was released on March 17, 2005 at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco, CA. Inspired by musicians such as Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Ani DiFranco, The Cowboy Junkies and more.... Paige's gritty songs take their cue from everyday life observations. Coupled with her unique percussive sense -garnered from five years spent studying Haitian and West African drumming- Paige's music is nothing short of intoxicating.
