Recorded between 2008 and 2014, A Quirky Time for Something New represents a new and reflective side of the group. One key to the dark, metallic, and cinematic sound of this album is a new stringed instrument, the 2xTar, built out of junk during the Honeydew Waltz session. Damasculated, Voros Nem, and Up To Go Down also feature the deep twangy percussive sound of this instrument, which brings "heavy metal" to the band's sound in a literal and metaphoric sense.
