简介
Ms. Cathy's Son is the first installment of the M.C.S. trilogy series by Hoffa Billz. Ideal for the 30-minute freeway commute or a decompressing half-hour drive through the town, this album takes listeners on a very up-close-and-personal trip into the life and mind of Hoffa Billz. Beginning and ending with Hoff's two personal favorite's, and having only two features, this EP is Hoff's pride and joy, and most successful of his career so far, consisting of entirely original material. Hoff wastes no time getting into the music as the EP's intro "3 Strikes" begins with bars less than a second after hitting play. Hoff chose this Urban Nerd produced instrumental as the backdrop for a song inspired by his love for both baseball and bowling, intertwined with messages of crime and the idea of their being three strikes (before you're done for good) in the criminal justice system. The second track, is a reminiscent tribute to one of Hoffa's best friends, told in complete story mode with the inevitable addition of punchlines and clever metaphors, of course. The title "My Ni**a Dreams" has three meanings; the first interpretation being that Hoffa's friend is named "Dreams", the second meaning is that the song is a description of Hoff's specific dreams as a "Ni**a", and lastly it is meant as a statement to the public of the potential one has, by letting them know that his ni**a has dreams, goals, ambitions, and the hustle to pursue them. Track 3, "Purple", features Billz' girlfriend "Anjahlee" on the chorus in this relaxing and melodic salute to Hoffa's favorite vices and things to do in his downtime. Anjahlee also appears as the star of the "I'm Gone" video, shot on site in Costa Rica. "Purple" is definitely repeat-worthy and likely to encourage some form of indulgence. Hoff turns up on Track 4 with some assistance from Mar-Q in this super-lyrical assault. "We Lit Now" is Hoff and Mar-Q, pretty much, bragging about anything about themselves they can find to brag about, and condescending upon anything that doesn't suit them. Everybody wants to do it sometime, let Track 4 get you in the mood. Hoffa continues talking his sh*t on Track 5, but in a more reflective tone as he talks about mastering setbacks and "Bouncing Back" despite feeling like his back was against the wall. This was Hoffa's first song released and performed after a four year hiatus in which Hoffa's focus was severely obstructed, hence the title, "Bouncing Back". As if one tribulation wasn't enough, Hoff reminds listeners that even when you recover from a loss, life continues, and "They Got Us" is a public service announcement and an implicit call to action for all youth living in urban areas of the USA. With a smooth Sade sample, the message in the song contrasts with the mood one would expect. Tracks two through six were all produced by Don Dean, cousin of Team Swerve member Holly Starks. The seventh and final track of the EP, is produced by Jahlil Beats, and features Hoff, summing up everything he pieced together from Track 1 through Track 6 and reminding his fans as well as any naysayers that when it comes to making music and expressing himself, Hoffa Billz will forever be "Doing This"! Hoffa has begun work on M.C.S Volume two, but that project has no projected release date as of yet.
