简介
Hard Lovin’ Truck Drivin’ Man was a song originally recorded by the late Elvis Shelton in 1992-1993. It was released on his 1993 Elvis Shelton and the Las Vegas Revue release, “Nine Lives by Five Cats.” The song was featured prominently on the Deano Day show that year, garnering many listener requests. Live, it became a staple during his sets; with gritty, tight playing and singing. In late 2014, Jeff Lehman, former member of The Las Vegas Revue, and the song’s writer and producer, decided to record a new version of the song. The original tracks from the 1992-1993 sessions were transferred from tape to digital format in early to mid-November 2014. During late November through December, new parts were added: drums, backing vocals, guitars, and keyboards; leaving Elvis’s lead vocal, Rich King’s rhythm guitar, Ann Lehman’s backing vocals, and a drum machine high-hat from the original tracks intact. Adding the new parts was Mike Novak, of Jim Gold and Gallery fame, adding some blistering slide leads, and Jeff adding backing vocals, new drums, keyboards, keyboard bass, acoustic guitar, and effects. Elvis Shelton became quite a Detroit legend in his day playing to thousands of fans across the US. His shows often sold out quickly. His tapes and albums sold in the tens to hundreds at each of his shows. Noted in his performances was uncanny accuracy of the King himself, and the best musicians in town. His entourage included lights, sound, and an elderly man whose sole job was to hand out scarfs and other swag to Elvis. Elvis Shelton began impersonating the King as a teenager in 1973, four years before the legions of impersonators who flocked to the job after Elvis Presley’s untimely death in 1977. Shelton garnered quite a following of fans across the US. People would travel from town to town to see him. In 2001 Elvis Shelton passed away, leaving behind an incredible legacy of live performances and recordings. In 2006 Jeff Lehman caught up with Elvis’s wife Sandy, at the Cannery Casino in Las Vegas, where he was on stage with Elliot Lurie and Looking Glass of “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” fame. Sandy sat with her family in the front row of the indoor/outdoor auditorium watching Jeff and band perform. Although most of the seats were taken, Sandy had an empty seat next to her, as if it was saved for Elvis Shelton himself. Jeff says it best; “It was as if he was there. I could feel his presence. In my estimation, he was by far the best Elvis impersonator around. Even offstage he kept the whole voice and persona intact. He was a happy- go- lucky, easy going, guy who was great to work for. I’ve heard many Elvis impersonators in my day. None of them are better than Elvis Shelton. There was no one quite like him. There never will be.” -Jeff Lehman 01-02-15. Ironically enough, this track is being released on 01-08-2015, which would have been Elvis Presley’s 80th birthday. This song was recorded at Jeff Lehman’s Sound Advice Studios East, Sterling Heights Michigan, and West, Warren Michigan from December 29, 1992 through December 29, 2014. It was mixed at Underground Productions by Kevin Holevar and Jeff Lehman on December 23, 2014.
