After four years of recording over forty songs only the very best made it onto this special album engineered by Sacha Muller, mastered by Dana White with photography by Emily Lux. David K Mathews (formerly with Etta James and currently with Santana) writes this about "Moon River": "Two friends...making music together, informed by a common sensibilité. Knowing Heather and Steve for many years, and having performed and recorded with them, I’m certain that I’m not alone in hearing something unique, something magical. From the Coplandesque opening of Johnny Mandel’s “You Are There,” a pastoral mood is set for the heartfelt reading of Dave Frishberg’s nostalgic lyric. The qualities of this remarkable duo really start to become evident from the first measures of “L’Etang.” On this waltz, the piano evokes Satie’s “Gymnopédies” and Heather’s languid vocal perfectly follows suit, transporting the listener to the glories of the Fin de siècle with its attendant wonders of the music of Chabrier, Debussy and Ravel. “The Summer Knows” continues the atmosphere with an ethereal performance of Michel Legrand’s more contemporary masterpiece where Steve's melodica recalls Toots Thielemans, and the lines between melody and accompaniment are mysteriously blurred. The vocal at times is reminiscent of both Barbra Streisand and Julie Andrews. “Ne me quitte pas” is a miraculous example of two musical spirits being “sur la même longueur d’onde.” The rhythm and dynamics of this performance ebb and flow “comme les vagues de l’ocean” along with the emotion of the lyrics, as Heather reminds one of how Piaf might have sung this song. The storm passes and the sea is calm again...all is still. Each song has its own unique atmosphere, waiting to be revealed..."
