Introducing - THE APRIL FAMILY The April Family are a new Alternative Country combo from Sydney. Featuring highly acclaimed vocalist Kylie Whitney, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Casey Atkins (Shane Nicholson, Perry Keyes, Adam Young, The Cuban Heels among others), and multi-instrumentalist Michael Carpenter (solo artist, Shane Nicholson, Bob Corbett Band, Audrey Auld and many others), the band’s sound is described as ‘Fleetwood Mac meets the Dixie Chicks’. In other words, 'organic and authentic country music, with a lean towards classic West Coast American sounds.’ Their debut single ‘1943’ came from a lyric concept Whitney had been throwing around for a while, using images of World War 2 to describe a feeling of longing and emptiness. Combined with Carpenter’s resonator guitar and banjo, Atkins’ sinewy lead tones, and the phat, dead rhythm section, the track evokes the desolate and desperate nature of the subject. The April Family formed in late 2015. Whitney had been working at Carpenter’s 'Love Hz Studios’ as an assistant, eventually evolving into a highly in demand backing vocalist. The pair worked on Whitney’s debut album ‘Something About Ghosts’ which was released in early 2015. Carpenter had been working with Atkins in many bands for almost 15 years, and was called in to play on the shows supporting Whitney’s album release. The first thing that struck them was the unique blend of their 3 voices, plus a common sense of mutual love for artists such as Jason Isbell, Gillian Welch, Linda Rondstadt and the Courtyard Hounds. After discussing the idea to form a band together, the trio started writing the first batch of material for what will be their debut album, to be released in the second half of 2016. They recently performed their first shows together to much acclaim, and look forward to building their catalogue and fanbase over the coming months. ‘1943’ is released on March 3, 2016 internationally on iTunes and other digital platforms, including the video release on You Tube.
