It’s all about space," says guitarist Curtis Chandler when describing the music of El Camino. "The fact that we try to underplay rather than overplay a tune, really defines our sound." In fact, El Camino was so interested in a "homestyle" sound, they opted to record their first EP on four tracks and skip most overdubbing."We recorded live except for backing vocals and the occasional 2nd guitar, or keyboard" says vocalist Dominic Garcia. "We wanted the songs to reflect a live energy." A while back guitarist Curtis Chandler hooked up with long-time friend and vocalist Dominic Garcia to form El Camino. This wasn’t the first time the two had jammed together. Previously in Seattle bands Symon Asher and Blind Tribe both on Seattle’s Miramar records, the two shared stages before, and sat in with each others bands. "I’ve always heard melody in Curtis’ work", says Garcia. "We’ve had the idea for this project for quite a while." Curtis and Dominic spent nearly four months writing new material before recording their first demo on a snowy Sunday in Dominic’s living room. A few months later, they added bassist Dave La Flam and decided to re-record their work. We left some just as a duo, but Dave now plays on most of our stuff." The result is a stunning collection of moody ballads laced with 70’s folk and a tinge of delta soul.
