Vocal veteran Deanna Dubbin took some chances on this project with her opening song, an original, entitled, 'I'm not a Jazz Singer', which pokes fun at herself after being told she was not a Jazz Singer, in a review done on Deanna's first CD. In contrast, after listening to clips from that same CD, 'With One More Look At You', Deanna was contacted by Composer, Rogers Grant, to add some of his works to her next project . Mr. Grants song entitled 'At Lonely Times' became Deanna's choice. Sadly Mr. Grant passed away before Deanna was able to send him her version of his song. 'I so hope he would be pleased with it'. Standards like Guess Who I Saw Today, Yesterdays, Moon River, When you Wish Upon a Star and P.S. I Love You, have been in Deanna's live shows for many years. It seemed like an obvious next step to immortalize these works in Deanna's body of work. Deanna's Jazzy arrangement of 'With You I'm Born Again' was created about 20 years ago and revisited to go on this project. 'I love how this song turned out', says Deanna. 'Company', the poignant piece written and performed by Rickie Lee Jones, has been a favorite that just had to put on this project. I input into final, the exact piano part used in Rickie's original version. Although I'm not a piano player, I used my computer to create the backing piano accompaniment to this song. 'I'm so In Love With You' was a song that wrote itself on a long car ride through the mountains. After inviting several musicians over to help me find the 'right' chords to go under the melody, I decided to try my hand at creating them in Finale. From that point, my idea was presented to Brad Steckel who created this beautifully haunting guitar part. Al Muirhead's amazing Trumpet solo on the end painted the exact picture I was looking for. And finally, the song 'One' was written by Brad Steckel in honor of his mother, who was one of the most vibrant and musical people I had ever encountered. Her love for singing and life has been so dearly missed since her passing in 2009. L-Ner Hanway will always live on in our lives through this song. The entire CD was a tribute to many of my family who passed away while I was recording this CD. Although there will never be enough music to replace you in my life, I will honor you with my love for something that touches us all, just as you all touched me.
