简介
by Thom JurekThis improvisational album between percussionist and electronics wizard Günter Müller and multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke (here on lap steel, piano, organ, and electronics) is a moody little gem. Using mainly textural backdrops for controlled and even sequenced improvisation, the six tracks that make up this disc are studies in a different kind of ambience. They are not so much soundscapes as mood sculptures, created with the electronic manipulation of ordinary sounds by stretching them durationally and elastically wrapping them around other sounds in order to slip some new palette of gray scale sonics into the middle. Tracks open slowly, pick up some kind of stem, insert different rhythms and string sounds into the middle sections, and generally disappear ever so gradually into the ether. Listening is an act of becoming aware of the dimensionality inherent in these tracks and not their creativity. This isn't music about expression so much as it's the projection of sound from one interior space to another. And as such, it works very well.
