En Común (In Common) is a project about the mix of traditional Cuban rhythms and contemporary jazz concepts. The idea that we all come from the same place but in many different ways is at the heart of this album. Fernando, Tyler, and I are very different musicians from very different backgrounds and the sound of this trio is where we meet in the middle. Cuba has always been fascinating to me personally because of its cultural roots in Africa and Europe. The music is beautiful and spirited and reflects many different traditions. With En Común, we went back to Cuba’s roots and blended traditional rhythms like Abacuá and Rhumba into a modern jazz harmonic landscape. To add to the contrast and color of En Común, Jacob Russo joins us on percussion and Anne Whattoff adds vocals. Chase Morrin - Piano Tyler Eaton - Bass Fernando Gomez - Drums, Tres Jacob Russo - Percussion Anne Whattoff - Vocals Engineered and mixed by Grammy® winner Rich Breen and produced by Chase Morrin and Chris Montgomery. 18-year-old pianist & composer, Chase Morrin, hails from San Diego, California and is currently enrolled in a five-year double degree program at Harvard (BS '15) and the New England Conservatory of Music (MM '16). He recently performed at the 2011 Monterrey Jazz Festival - as pianist for the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and in showcase with his own quartet. He is also the winner of the Monterey Jazz Festival's 2011 Gerald Wilson Award for his big band composition, "Mumphis." Chase Morrin has performed at a number of world-renowned festivals including: Monterey Jazz Festival, Reno Jazz Festival, Vail Jazz Festival and Centrum Jazz Festival. He has also performed at Catalina Jazz Club (Hollywood), Vitello's (Los Angeles), Yoshi's (San Francisco), Jazz Alley (Seattle) and Dizzy's (San Diego).
