简介
"Sixteen Blue Roses" would be a fair characterization of the end result of this project, whose ostensible purpose was to present a "taste test" of various Portland-area artists and their approach to the blues. The Pacific Northwest is known for its vibrant music scene, and the Rose City in particular has a real love affair going with the blues in all its forms. Spanning the generations from 19-year-old guitar sensation Jesse Schmunk to 73-year-old "discovery" O.C. Thomas, and coming out of a number of bags with a total of nine artists -- each with their own angle on the blues -- this disc is a kind of Portland Blues smorgasbord. The project was recorded "live" in the studio in two sessions. We went with the first takes as much as possible in order to capture the feel. The rhythms section of Scroggins, Monroe and Jackson are the unifying factor. Carlton Jackson in particular displays a dazzling versatility, being the only musician who plays on each and every song on the disc. Janice Scroggins, appearing on her seventh Flying Heart project, once again displays her mastery and grace. Carlton and Janice were on the very first Flying Heart release in 1982, as was Rich Halley, so these sessions were also a kind of reunion.
