简介
What started as six Chicagoland musicians jamming together in December 2011, resulted in a fully formed group of seven by March 2012. At Zaramela's foundation is a tight blues rock/pop rhythm section that is more than comfortable with jazz and funk. On top of that base sits an equally versatile, powerfully soulful horn section, and a lead vocalist adept at jazz, pop and hip hop. It is easy to see why it is difficult to describe the genre of most of the band's material. They blend musical styles like a New Orleans chef adds ingredients to gumbo -- "a little o' dis, an' a little o' dat". Kris and Jameson met in middle school, and in addition to playing in the school ensembles, started making music of their own. At the same time Josh, Malcolm, Aaron, Mike and Inho were similarly honing their craft at another school. Six of the guys attended Glenbrook South High School, and continued growing musically through the school's excellent program, and independent performances. After jamming together in Malcolm's basement it was clear they couldn't move forward without a bassist, and Inho, who attended Glenbrook North, was the guy. The group has been working on building a fan base. In 2013, Zaramela played at the Chicago Music Awards at the Copernicus Center, The Unsigned Galena Music Festival, The Rave in Milwaukee. They opened for Mathien at the House of Blues-Chicago in May, and opened for The Pipe Dreams there in August. They headlined Friendly Tap, Beat Kitchen, and Schubas, and opened for Twiddle at the Canopy Club in Champaign/Urbana. In December 2012 Zaramela released an EP, "WORK.", and now in November 2013, have released "Gumbo", their debut LP. Both were recorded at Pressure Point Recording Studios in the South Loop of Chicago.
