Russ Miller's new CD recording "You and the Night and the Music" is a collection of Jazz pieces which showcase his considerable big band arranging skills and composition chops. He has chosen some of Detroit's finest musicians to perform this well-thought-out collection of music, and they in turn have brought it to life.

Words used to describe the music, like sensuous, sophisticated, and sparkling and lush seem inadequate, as the music is like an elegantly dressed woman who saunters into the room catching the gaze of all present. The power in this recording lies in the great care and thoughtfulness rendered at every turn. The band's performance, sensitive, sometimes understated and at times powerful, is breathtaking and Jeannine Course-Miller's vocals are on par with the best. Personal favorites? Depends on the season, day, mood or time of the day for me. The variety of music and moods which sprinkle this recording with gold dust has been brought together and lovingly juxtaposed by a master musician, Russ Miller.

This recording will withstand the test of time. Repeated listening will reward aficionados with a nuance that may have been missed on a previous hearing, or perhaps a new favorite...Such is the nature of great music.
