“Spiritual Revival” is the beginning manifestation of a much larger vision and mission… help people re-realize the blessings of shooting for a dream as well as to bring a new level of awareness to society of issues and opportunities utilizing various mediums and tools. This album provides a new and unique wave of music compilation with an innovative combination of music, poetry, and art. The album uses Negro Spirituals and interestingly takes some of the songs from its original inception through today’s more current styles of music like jazz, a cappella, traditional gospel, and so on. It does this while informing about how Negro Spirituals came to be. This album utilizes the myriad of talents and resources in Kansas City that range from the a cappella of the Deacons/ Chosen 4, to the jazz of Ronald “Sparky” Garnett, Jr.: from the Roberta Flack sounds of Patricia Green, to the Mahalia Jackson sounds of Evelyn Fordham- Goodman. What really makes this album unique is how it, in an entertainingly learning fashion, takes the past history and music of African- Americans and compares/ combines it with today and tomorrow’s music. The music is then intertwined with a national prize winning poem from up and coming poet Shawn Payne. “Spiritual Revival” is sure to get you thinking in your head, tapping with your feet, and feeling with your heart. The artist are as follows: Poet: Shawn Payne – An ambitious Kansas City native now living in Chicago, Mr. Payne has always had aspiration to be into poetry. Mr. Payne has many accomplishments and awards for his poetry including winning a national contest. Singers: Deacons/ Chosen 4 – The Deacons, who reside in Kansas City, have their roots starting back in the 1980’s. The Leavenworth group, The Chosen 4, have their roots going even deeper than The Deacons. Both groups sing a cappella style music. The Deacons have sung at various churches and activities throughout the metropolitan area of Kansas City and Leavenworth. The Chosen 4 have not only sung at various churches and activities throughout the metropolitan area of Kansas City and Leavenworth, but also have self- produced an album. From The Deacons: Henry Dixon and James Brown; from The Chosen 4: David Arnold and Dion Taylor Spiritual Revival Chorale – This chorale is made up of some of the artists on the album: James Brown, Henry Dixon, Ronald Garnett Sr., Patricia Green, and special guest Rena Dixon. Evelyn Fordham- Goodman – Native Kansas Citian but currently a Pennsylvania resident, this school teacher has mesmerized many people across the nation with her Mahalia Jackson sound and strong melodious voice. Patricia Green – This Kansas Citian impresses many people with her Roberta Flack style of singing. Ms. Green has sung in many states in the United States and has won various competitions and awards across the Mid-West, and has even had a few offers to sing and record on the professional level. HarMENy – A young group, HarMENy is a gospel version of Boys 2 Men. They have performed at graduations, concerts, and churches throughout the Kansas City area. They have even had a series of solo concerts over the years. The group includes: Ryan Dixon, Carlos Mott, Raymond Mott III, and Chris Garnett. Ronald Garnett Sr. – Mr. Garnett is not only an artist but also a mindboggling singer with all kinds of acalaids and awards for his singing. This includes singing on other albums and winning local and regional contests. Recently, Mr. Garnett performed in the hit gospel/ musical “Between Me and God (Secrets of a Mother)”. Musicians: Patrick Branch Jr. – An Alabaman with ambition, this young man has a rich background of musical talent, playing for various groups and organizations across the south and in the Midwest. He has also assisted with the music on other albums. Ronald Garnett Jr. – This now Minneapolis resident has played with some famous individuals over time. Nicknamed “Sparky” or “Little Spark”, he has performed in Kansas City and Minneapolis, hosting solo concerts in both cities. He is well on his way of establishing a well and prosperous career in the music industry.
