D.C. Bloom’s “One White Crow” - which features Susan Herndon on vocals, Chip Dolan on piano and Brian Standefer on cello - was inspired by the story of William James and Lenora Piper. James was one of America’s greatest psychologists a founder of the Pragmatic school of thought. But this unbending pragmatist was converted to a belief in psychic phenomena. The medium who accomplished this Leonora Piper, who led James to coin the adage about “the one white crow that proves that not all crows are black.” She became to him the one honest Spiritualist medium whose existence negated the accusation all mediums are fakes. “I wanted to write a song for those who are looking for love’s one white crow - that one who’ll prove that true love can be real,” says Bloom.
