"Soul Breeze", the new release from veteran singer/songwriter Tim McGuire is a delicious concoction of lyrics, melodies, harmonies and magical imagination. After listening one time through I got the feeling I knew some of the characters in the songs. The subject matter ranges from long lasting relationships, to love gone bad, to domestic violence to folks succumbing to the pressures of everyday life. A recent quote from a fan said "He's a combination of Neil Young and Jimmy Buffet". At first I thought that was a strange comment. But, after spending some time to cogitate that statement I began to realize that this guy was right. The lyrical content goes from absolutely serious to whimsical. And the music from light acoustic guitars and native American flute to expressive electric guitar. All twelve sides deal with real adult topics. Not much in the way of sugar pop here. Although "I Think", "Powerful Thing" and "Tavern Town" are sniffing at it. Tim wrote all twelve selections over the last year and a half. The record is cohesive while being different enough to not be redundant. Tim also engineered and produced the project. Long time Nashville friend Chuck Turner provided the mastering. Friend and fellow singer/songwriter Josh Burch contributed inspiration and technicial support. Tim sang, played guitars, bass, drums, mandolin, harmonica, flute and percussion on this effort. His Virginia bluegrass bud Kevin Martin added banjo, Eric Stine played keys and Renae McGuire supplied backing vocals. Tim admits that the 10 years he spent in Nashville made him a better producer even though he feels that experience makes it harder for him to use less instruments. Quote, "I love the different textures that each instrument brings". "The downside to that is you need an orchestra to pull it off live". "The upside is it's really fun to produce and listen to". There's a ton of music out today. And let me say the music business might be in the crapper. But, music is alive and well. Tim McGuire's "Soul Breeze" is a collection of music that will make you laugh, cry and groove. Check it out you won't be disappointed!!
