BIO: SHELL AND WILLIAMS Tennessee based Barbara Shell and Terrie Williams have known each other for over 16 years. What first began as a friendship based on their mutual love of horses, has grown to an appreciation of musical creativity. Born in Nashville, Tn., and raised in New Orleans, La., Shell grew up with a love of folk, country music and bluegrass. At age 13, Barbara borrowed her mother’s Kay guitar and began teaching herself basic chords. Today, her compositions weave a beautiful tapestry of life and love both lost and found. Her guitar music evokes emotion and reflects the influences throughout her life which include: James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, John Denver, Townes Van Zandt and Allison Krauss. After marriage and family she reconnected with her guitar through work with Jimmy “King of the Blues” Smith, and creative endeavors with Terrie Williams. Shell resides in Chattanooga, Tn. with husband George. They have two children, Jenny 24, and Trey, 16, who continue to be great sources of inspiration in her work. Terrie Williams plays keyboard and has performed since early childhood. Also a self-taught musician, Terrie has been playing piano since age 5 and guitar since age 9. Her vocal talent has been acclaimed throughout the Chattanooga area both onstage and on radio. Her compositions are rich in her country heritage and paint beautiful portraits of Southern life. Often haunting, Williams’ vocals have been compared to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Her soulful voice captures her passion for music and lends itself to storytelling at its best. In addition to her musical talent, Terrie Williams manages Woodfinch Farm, and breeds and trains American Quarter Horses. Her love of life on this idyllic farm can be heard in her songs, “The Farm” and “Appalachian Song”. Williams lives in Chattanooga, Tn. and has one daughter, Shannon. Shell and Williams’ 2007 CD release, One Blue Pony, is their first studio collaboration and features the talents of Tim Starnes, (fiddle, mandolin, harmonica), Jay Stanfill (bass), and Jimmy Smith (guitar).
